Turning In and Out
We’re turning in and outCan’t tell up from down
We’re burning up in smoke
and there’s nothing that can be done.
Can you take that tremendous feat?
Will it make them stop and stare?
We’re going to have to find
some way to survive.
The world is spinning on and on
Jump and it will turn beneath you.
Taste that bitter sweetness
rushing through your veins.
If you feel too weak
it’s probably because you are.
The world is bathed in daylight
and it’s blinding us all.
We’re fading in and out now
our humanity is gone.
Nothing is feeling right,
something must be wrong.
I guess
So it turns out, that I cannot do all the things I imagined doing when I was youngBut I guess, things would be right if I hadn’t left you behind.
Walking on pavement, just doesn’t feel quite the same
But I know, that I have all day to make it feel like it did
So it turns out that I cannot talk, to anyone but you
But I guess, that’s just the way things have to be sometimes.
I don’t even want to know, what my life would have been like If I was with you
But I guess I could just look at the mirror and see your face staring right back at me
So it turns out that the joke is maybe on me
But I guess, that it’s funny either way,
and we were laughing all along
And I digress, this is just talk
So it’s not like it was, with names on slips of paper behind locks
But I guess, those papers would have just faded anyway.
I’m not even sure where I put that key
But I guess, that’s for the better.
Spinning Wheel
You were the flame swallowerand I was the spinning wheel
Oh! to the carnival we’d go
trying to pretend that our
lives were less real
Oh! to the carnival we’d go
working ourselves until we
could hardly feel
You were the bearded lady
and I was the spinning wheel
Oh! and to the carnival we’d go
making the children believe
that there was something more real
Oh! and to the carnival we’d go
trying to pretend that our
wounds would heal
You were the lion tamer
and I was the spinning wheel
Oh! and to the carnival we’d go
turning secret love letters
into something real
Oh! and to the carnival we’d go
spending our paychecks to buy
our next meal
You were the lizard man
and I was the spinning wheel
busy living a life that
was more real
Glacier
You were standing thereout in the cold
I couldn’t help
the wind was blowing
down the mystic mountain side
I couldn’t see
you tried to run
I couldn’t grasp
your finger tips
all you wanted
was to hold on
The wind was strong
the ice it blew
all around
there was nothing
I could do
I lost you there
on that mountainside
I turned to leave
I had to go
I slipped and fell
The ice was flowing
down the mountainside
The thought of you
was the last thought
on my mind
as I sunk down
that frozen sea
and we became as one
(This is only part of the poem, the rest will be published tomorrow to 7 days 7 authors)
This is version 2.0 of my book, which can be bought now on Lulu, just click the picture and it’ll take you there.
Here are some facts about the book:
- It is 66% larger than version 1.0
- The cover has changed, and it is blank on the back cover
- You can no longer purchase version 1.0
- But that’s OK because this version has all the same stuff that was in 1.0 and (you guessed it) 66% more.
- The book is $12.00 even
- As always everything that is in this book can be found either here on this blog or in my various others.
- The pages seem whiter in this version than the last, I guess that’s a good thing
- It smells stronger (of what i’m assuming is book glue)
- This version contains a Preface
- It tops out at 85 pages
- This book is not perfect, but is a heck of a lot better than version 1.0, this just means that version 3.0 is going to be even better.
- This version contains every poem found on this blog up to The Spit Euphoric
- The cover is really glossy and gets fingerprinty
- I named this book after you
Some background info on the book:
This book contains everything (good, but that’s up for debate) that I’ve ever written in my life. However I only started writing in 2005. The way that this book works is, every year or so I’m going to put out another edition, under the same title, with all the previous works and all the new pieces I’ve written up to the publication date. As I find things that I dont like, and as my tastes change the versions will be tweaked in style and formatting; covers will change, content will shift, etc. . As each new version comes out, the older version will be discontinued, making them collectable (i wish), for example, less than 30 copies of version 1.0 were even printed.
Thank you, and see y’all in a year or so,
Jacob
Do not lose yourself.
You have no namebecause you have not time for one
you are the young wanderer,
and on your journey you are gone.
Do not lose yourself
Young Wanderer,
though the way be long and dark,
and your eyes so small.
Do not lose yourself,
The world has just begun.
Do not lose yourself
Young Wanderer,
though the way be long and the twists many
and your legs so small.
Do not lose yourself,
The world has just begun.
Do not lose youself
Young Wanderer,
always hear our calls of love, and know
though your ears so small,
that we are here.
Do not lose yourself,
The world has just begun,
and this is the world that you live in,
for now, and forever more.
The Spit Euphoric
The spit euphoricHe can’t swallow
The spit euphoric
like acid burning
He thought he could taste
The spit euphoric dripping
The spit euphoric dripping
Between her legs
Someone
Someone walked into my home last nightSomeone who wasn’t supposed to be there
His shadow flickered in the candle light
He brought with him tools needed to fight
I wanted to move but I couldn’t dare
Someone walked into my home last night
The door I had forgotten to lock tight
leaving my home defenseless and bare
His shadow flickered in the candle light
He thought he was alone and out of sight
as I was whispering my last prayer
Someone walked into my home last night
My saviour angel, dressed all in white
He wiped my tears away and stroked my hair
His shadow flickered in the candle light
“Everything is going to be alright,
I’m here now, you have nothing more to bear.”
Someone walked into my home last night
His shadow flickered in the candle light
The Barn
I once found a girl in the back of a barnWhere the wood and the hay and the horses lay
And Oh- it did hurt when she went away
I was closer to the moon than she could be
It didn’t seem to bother her much though
It wasn’t a place she wanted to see
We walked along the moor where Danny once stood
And there I promised my love to her
I had never been as close to anyone as we, then, were
And probably never will be again.
The glance she gave me as she went
had destroyed the hearts of lesser men
But I did not cripple, I did not die
I just stood there, for standing was all I could do
I thought I might stand there ‘til my final breath drew
I once lost a girl in the back of a barn.
